Join a room for free →What are audio rooms?
A language café that's always open
Audio rooms are live, voice-based conversation spaces that anyone can join or host — for free, at any time, in any of Speassy's 80+ supported languages. Unlike tutoring sessions that need to be booked days in advance, audio rooms are always open. Find a room about a topic you care about, and start talking.
Rooms range from casual "free talk" sessions to structured vocabulary drills, pronunciation workshops, and teacher-led group lessons. You can join as a speaker or listen quietly until you feel ready to jump in — no pressure, no judgment.
Every room is tagged with the target language, proficiency level (A1 through C2), and a topic. Browse, filter by what you need, and join with one tap. Your microphone — and the kindness of strangers — will do the rest.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know
What is an audio room on Speassy?
An audio room is a live, voice-only conversation space where language learners and native speakers can practise speaking in real time. Rooms are open to join at any time — no appointment needed. Simply browse rooms filtered by language, proficiency level, or topic, and jump in. Think of it like a language café that's always open, anywhere in the world.
Do I need to pay to join audio rooms?
No. Joining and hosting audio rooms is completely free, forever. Speassy monetises optional premium features such as private one-on-one lessons with professional teachers and advanced scheduling tools — but the core community rooms are and will always be free.
How many people can be in one audio room?
Public community rooms support up to 50 simultaneous speakers and unlimited silent listeners. Private practice rooms (bookable with a teacher) are limited to two participants for focused one-on-one sessions. Group lesson rooms support 2–8 learners with a single teacher.
What languages are available?
Speassy currently supports 80+ languages, covering every major world language plus dozens of regional and minority languages. Our community actively requests new languages, and we typically add newly requested languages within 30 days if there is a sufficient community base.
Is audio-only better than video for language learning?
Research consistently shows that removing visual distractions improves listening comprehension and speaking confidence, particularly in early-to-intermediate learners. Audio-only conversations also reduce the anxiety that comes with being seen on camera — a significant barrier for many learners. Additionally, audio uses far less bandwidth, making Speassy accessible in regions with slower internet connections.
Can I practise with a professional teacher in an audio room?
Yes. Teacher-hosted rooms are clearly marked on the browse page. Professional teachers on Speassy are verified, rated by learners, and offer structured conversation practice, pronunciation coaching, and grammar correction. Private lesson rooms are bookable in advance via the Teacher Marketplace.
What proficiency levels are the rooms suited for?
Every room is tagged with a proficiency label: Beginner (A1–A2), Intermediate (B1–B2), or Advanced (C1–C2). There are also "Any level" rooms focused on specific topics (travel, cooking, film) where mixed-level conversation is intentional and enriching. You can filter rooms by level from the browse page.
How do audio rooms stay safe and moderated?
All rooms are subject to Speassy's community guidelines. Any user can mute, remove, or report another participant with a single tap. Rooms hosted by verified teachers are additionally monitored by our Trust & Safety team. Repeated violations result in permanent bans. We take the safety of our community — especially newer learners — seriously.
What devices and browsers are supported?
Speassy audio rooms work in any modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) on desktop and mobile without a plugin or app download. Native iOS and Android apps are also available for the best mobile experience, including background audio when your screen is off.
Can I record a session for review later?
Users cannot record other participants' audio without their explicit consent. If all participants agree, the room host can enable session recording, and the recording is stored privately in your Speassy account for personal review. Recordings are never shared with third parties.
